Working with the Pomona School for Arts and Enterprise (SAE) and following the guidelines of the Green Schoolyards Grant from CalFire as part of their Urban and Community Forestry Program, the Berliner team designed revitalized outdoor spaces for the school's middle and high school campuses. The designs incorporate outdoor learning spaces, lunch, gathering, and hangout areas, all surrounded by native, drought-tolerant landscape and ample seating and collaboration spaces. The plan includes shade structures, as well as the planting of mature trees for shade. These previously underutilized spaces will now provide biophilic, usable areas for the school, enhancing biodiversity and increasing tree canopy, contributing to climate change mitigation.
