Two New Elementary Schools

Client: Charter School Organization

Scope: New Construction

Size: 45,000 SF & 34,000 SF

Completion: In Progress

Project Manager: Richard Berliner, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, ALEP

Berliner Architects is currently designing two new elementary schools for a charter school organization. The two schools, one in Los Angeles and one in Compton, are both two-story elementary schools of similar size.

Berliner studied the neighborhoods and schools around the sites to inform the design schemes. Both schools are situated on sites adjacent to residential and commercial areas. Berliner was sensitive to sight lines and visibility when designing the school schemes, making sure that the street facing facades incorporated different materials, colors, and massing to give relief to the facades.

The schools themselves were designed at a smaller scale to be comfortable for the elementary school students and incorporate warm, inviting color palettes.
