The corner of the Los Angeles Valley College campus at the busy intersection of Fulton Avenue and Oxnard Boulevard is the site of this new electronic marquee sign designed by Berliner Architects as part of their overall Campus- Wide Improvements program.
The sign’s dynamic form is inspired by the mid century modern architecture of the campus and incorporates a futuristic, technological spirit reflecting the college’s emphasis on the sciences, in particular astronomy. The ever-changing electronic message board is wirelessly remote-controlled by computer. In the evening, the college name is softly illuminated by internal down lighting, shielded to minimize sky glow.
A second, identical marquee sign will be installed as part of improvements planned for the corner of the campus at Fulton Avenue and Burbank Boulevard. These improvements will include a pedestrian walkway and gateway structure welcoming students arriving via the new Metro Orange Line bus way across the street.
