61 Colorado
Client: Dan Mellinkoff
Scope: Renovation
Size: 11,000 SF
Completion: 2009
Project Manager: Richard Berliner, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, ALEP
The renovation of 61 Colorado, a retail and office building in historic Old Town Pasadena, involved restoring interiors severely damaged by fire and bringing the building into compliance with ADA, building and fire codes. Along with an expanded basement and second floor loft space, a new stair/elevator tower was added for improved accessibility.
The additions are architecturally compatible with the historic building yet distinctly up-to-date, an aesthetic in accordance with The Federal Department of the Interior guidelines. Old brickwork contrasts with new structural steel and glass; a bold atrium gives the ensemble a contemporary character.
The project received a 2010 Historic Preservation Award from the City of Pasadena Historic Preservation Commission in May 2010.
